Amravati is a holy city in the state of Maharashtra, India. Amravati is the seventh most populous metropolitan area in Maharashtra. It is also the administrative headquarters of the Amravati district. Tourists coming to the city can visit historical landmarks like the temples of Amba, Shri Krishna, and Shri Venkateshwara. Legebd has it that Amravati is named for its ancient Ambadevi temple. The ancient proof of existence of Amravati is the stone carved inscription on the base of marble statue of God Adinath Rhishabhnath. The city is famous for its many temples visited by pilgrims and tourists.

The Ambadevi Temple is very popular. It is situated at the very heart of the city. The legend attached to this temple is that the Hindu God Krishna abducted Rukmini from this temple and married her. The temple is devoted to the Goddess Amba and draws many devotees.

The Satidham Temple located at Rallies Point is dedicated to Lord Krishna and his companion Radha. The temple houses exquisite idols of Krishna, Radha, Ram, Sita, Ganesha, Shiva and Rani Satiji. They are all revered Hindu Gods. A very popular fair is held to honor Krishna?s birthday, Janmasthami every year.

The fair draws a big crowd. Another temple dedicated to Krishna and Radha is the Shri Bhakti Dham temple. The temple is at Bandera road. The temple also houses an idol of Shri Sant Jalaram Bappa. Children will enjoy the adjacent park. Chatri talao is a beautiful water reservoir on the Malkhed Railway Road. It was built in 1888 on a small spring called Kali Nadi. The reservoir was supposed to provide drinking water to the city, however now the Upper Wardha Dam supplies the drinking water.

Today Chatri talao is popular as a boating facility with a beautiful garden. On the weekends a popular spot is the Wadali Talao. It is on Chandur railway road and was built to supply water to the Amravati camp.

The main attraction here is the zoo and the surrounding garden. It is a great place to relax, watch the animals and for children to play. Close to Amravati in Chikhaldhara and Dharni tehsils is the Melghat Tiger Reserve. It is one of the last remaining tiger habitats of Indian tigers in Maharashtra. The Wan sanctuary in Melghat is an extension of the tiger reserve. The sanctuary houses diverse fauna and flora. Chikhaldhara is a very popular hill resort with beautiful and picturesque surroundings. The nearest airport is the Nagpur airport. Nagpur is the terminus of the branch line of Central railway on Mumbai- Kolkata main line. It is well connected by roads with the important cities within the State and outside the State. Government and private accommodations are available.
