Before we dive into the interesting, groundbreaking and fascinating FaceLube story, I'd like to tell you a little bit about my background - so you know more about who I am, and get a deeper sense of what started this amazing story.

My background is automotive. For 18 years, I've worked with a California based company that makes and distributes automotive service equipment - it's a type of machinery that car dealerships, quick lubes and repair facilities use to service your car. If you've ever had your transmission, engine or cooling system flushed and serviced, you've probably seen one of them before.

Masculine Men's Skin Care Dilemma - Motor Oil and Testosterone

As you can imagine, there are very few women executives in this industry. The environment is ultra masculine - and a wonderful mix of testosterone and motor oil!

Now, there's more to me than just an above-average automotive IQ. I've always had a personal passion for couture and beauty. And when word got out that I was going into the beauty business, my male friends and colleagues started asking me for skin care advice (masculine men's skin care). Why are they comfortable talking to me about something so personal? I guess you could say it's because I'm like one of the boys.

At first, I hesitated to give masculine face care advice (masculine men's skin care advice) - not because I wasn't comfortable "hanging out" with the guys. Having been in the automotive industry for 18 years and serving as a volunteer advocate on social issues for almost as long, most of my social acquaintances were, and still are - men! And about as masculine and meat and potatoes as they come.

Masculine Men's Skin Care Dilemma - The Traditional Beauty Industry

No, the reason that I hesitated was because, honestly, at the time I knew very little about men's face care (masculine men's skin care). But then as these questions kept coming and men shared with me the dilemma they faced and their impressions about today's products for men (men's skin care products), I decided to learn more. And I was blown away by what I discovered!

What I learned was that masculine men face two fundamental and impenetrable barriers when it comes to "doing business" with the traditional beauty industry.

Masculine Men's Skin Care Dilemma - Physical Barrier

First - the physical barrier.

I found that traditional beauty venues are very uncomfortable and not at all user friendly for men. Men in general are more practical, preferring to get in, get what's needed and get out. Most men wouldn't go into the beauty section at a department store, let alone enjoy being catered to by the ever present beauty consultant. While drugs stores and discount retailers are less daunting, the multiple aisles and dizzying array of skin care products (for women), each with their own set of claims and terminology can make finding the right (masculine skin care) products for men a very confusing and time consuming task.

As a result, men in general either do not, or will not shop for skin care products (men's skin care products) at these locations. This also makes it extremely difficult for the Beauty Industry to reach men, let alone, educate and convince them of the need and proper use of men's face care products (masculine men's skin care products).

Masculine Men's Skin Care Dilemma - Psychological Barrier

Second - the psychological barrier - that there is still significant social stigma attached to men's use of skin care a.k.a. "beauty" products.

Traditionally, beauty is accepted as a female ritual. In general, men either don't use beauty products because he doesn't think he needs them, won't use them because the idea of it is emasculating. Or if he uses them, meaning he has accepted the concept of skin care (men's skin care) as good for him, he doesn't want people to know about it, because it makes him vulnerable to ridicule by his peers.

This means that to break the psychological barrier and reverse a lifetime of social conditioning and stigma attached to a skin care routine for men (masculine men's skin care routine), the product line (masculine men's skin care product line) must serve the dual functions of appealing to men both psychologically and visually.
