'Toddlers' terror: Hypercritical coach gets 'rude'

By Ree Hines, TODAY contributor

Winning pageants is serious business -- at least it is to some of the eager tykes and overeager stage moms who've made appearances on "Toddlers & Tiaras." But few of the past participants have been quite as no-nonsense about princess perfection as one coach is on the next episode of the show.

In an exclusive sneak peek TLC provided to The Clicker, 9-year-old Faithlyn introduces the world to Nikki, the pageant coach from hell.

"I like my routines to be perfect," Faithlyn explained. "Because if they're not, Nikki will get a little rude."

And when she says, "a little rude," Faithlyn is seriously underselling Nikki's style.

The moment the coach entered the room, her over-the-top nitpicking began. Faithlyn's eye contact was too fast, too jittery, and according to Nikki, the kid's arm moments made her look "like a dead bird."

That's all just part of the critical coach's style.

"I don't care if your music stops, I don't care if your head falls off, I don't care if your pants fall down, get your (expletive) together and do your routine," Nikki said directly to the camera. "I don't think that's a lot to ask."

Well, that's one opinion.

But before anyone goes thinking that Nikki is a bully when it comes to dealing with her pageant hopeful, rest assured, she's that way with everyone.

"I hate the way face makeup looks on her." "More mascara on the top and bottom." "It just doesn't look right!" Those were just a few of the words of encouragement Nikki offered on the beleaguered makeup artist who attempted to get Faithlyn ready for the Carolina Queens pageant in Columbia, S.C.

When the makeup artist dared to mention that she didn't care for the resulting effect, she soon learned her take wasn't wanted.

"Well, this is how I want my girl!" Nikki shot back with an intense look in her eyes. "So, needless to say, you are going to do this girl like that. I'm not paying you to do it how you want."

O-o-o-K.

See what else Nikki has to say when "Toddlers & Tiaras" airs Wednesday night at 9 p.m. on TLC.
