Military Rec: Tennis tourney scheduled May 3-5
Fort Bragg Morale, Welfare and Recreation will host a weekend post tennis tournament in May.
The competition is scheduled May 3-5 at the Ryder Tennis Facility with play beginning Friday at 5:30 p.m.
The tournament is open to all Department of Defense ID cardholders. Registration is free.
The field of competitors in singles and doubles play will be broken down by gender and skill level, with brackets for advanced, intermediate and novice players.
Divisions will be combined if there are fewer than four players in any bracket.
Online registration is open through May 1 at fortbraggmwr.com. A schedule of matches will be posted at Ryder and at the sports office on Reilly Street by 4 p.m. May 2.
For more information about the tennis tournament, call Kurt Phoenix at 907-5438.
Women's softball
Fort Bragg Sports is offering a women's softball program this summer.
While the department's unit-level tournament is limited to active-duty personnel who are assigned or attached to Fort Bragg, the women's league is less exclusive.
The program is open to all female military and Defense Department ID cardholders.
The league will include a schedule of round-robin regular-season play starting May 13 and wrap with a postseason tournament set to finish July 31.
There's no cost to participate in the program. Teams must register online at fortbraggmwr.com no later than May 6 to be included on the initial schedule.
It is MWR's policy to accommodate teams that must register late, but those teams won't be guaranteed a full schedule of play. No teams can register after May 24.
