Hacker Challenge Winner: Dominate Your Cleaning With a Laundry Basket

In last week's Hacker Challenge, we asked you to share your best spring cleaning hack. We received some great entries, but the winning hack shows us a clever way to tidy up your home.

Winner: Dominate Your Cleaning With a Laundry Basket

Kraski discovered a great method for tidying up a home?getting all those misplaced objects back to the rooms where they belong. Here's the idea. Start in one room with an empty laundry basket. Whatever items don't belong in that room go into the basket. Move on to the next room, where you unload items from the basket that belong in the room and load back up on items that should be elsewhere. Keep at it, moving room to room, keeping the cycle going as long as you need to until everything's in place. For Kraski, cleaning this way has almost turned into a game.

We got a lot of great entries and we'd be remiss if we didn't share some of our favorites. Here are some of the entries that really impressed us.

Scrub Floors With Your Shoes

Julie has very old white linoleum floors that occasionally need a deep cleaning. Faced with yet again doing this chore by hand, Julie decided there had to be a better way. So, she attached scrubbing pads to the bottoms of an old pair of sneakers using a hot glue gun. She pours hot water on the floor, a little detergent, and throws the whole weight of her body into the scrubbing (presumably with Chubby Checker playing in the background).

Clean Your Bathroom While You Shower

A long, steamy shower is the secret to Carolyn's sparkling bathroom. While showering, she uses a scrubber with a bit of dish soap to wash down the shower. Sometimes, she'll even bring small objects that need a good cleaning into the shower with her?a small trashcan or a wire shelf. When she gets out of the shower, the walls are damp enough that a quick wipe down with a microfiber cloth and the pre-steamed and counter tops just require a bit of vinegar for a good cleaning.
