New York, NY -- (November 20, 2012) Wolters Kluwer Health and the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) are pleased to announce an agreement to publish Journal of Forensic Nursing, the official journal of IAFN. Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), part of Wolters Kluwer Health, will become the publisher for Journal of Forensic Nursing, beginning with the first Quarter 2013 issue.

The only journal dedicated exclusively to this emerging nursing specialty, the Journal of Forensic Nursing will continue on its quarterly publication schedule. In addition to print publication, LWW will develop a new journal website and iPad app edition.

"This new alliance will provide us with an opportunity to firmly establish our global presence as the foremost authority in forensic nursing, and it will further assist us in developing a significant continuing education program," says Cindy Peternelj-Taylor, RN, BScN, MSc, DF-IAFN, Editor-in-Chief, of the Journal of Forensic Nursing. "We are especially excited about the prospect of introducing readers to the Journal of Forensic Nursing via an iPad app, planned for the next stage of the journal's development."

"We're honored to have been selected by the IAFN as the publishing partner for the Journal of Forensic Nursing," commented Jayne Marks, Vice President of Publishing at Wolters Kluwer Health. "As a developing specialty, we're pleased to help broaden the journal's reach globally and through new digital channels to advance forensic nursing research."

A relatively new specialty, forensic nursing addresses health care issues that transcend health and legal systems. Forensic nurses are specialists in providing care to victims and perpetrators of violence, trauma, and abuse. They have expert knowledge of health and legal systems, collect evidence, provide medical testimony in court, and provide consultation to legal authorities. Forensic nurses are leaders in anti-violence efforts.

Each issue of Journal of Forensic Nursing presents original research, reviews, and editorials addressing the wide range of health care, legal and ethical, and other issues in which these nurse specialists participate. The first issue of 2013 will be devoted to Correctional Nursing, and will feature articles that advance the forensic nursing role in the correctional milieu. This special issue represents the cumulative efforts of the IAFN Correctional Nursing Task Force that was formed in the spring of 2011.
