CROTHERSVILLE

Joining the golf team wasn?t an option when Andy Smith was a student at Crothersville High School in the late 1980s.

But in recent years, that sport has been offered for boys at Crothersville.

?Five years ago, I heard we were going to have a golf team, and I thought, ?Well, that?s interesting,? because I graduated here and we never had golf at all,? Smith said. ?Golf was a foreign thing to people in this area.?

Smith said he married into a golfing family, got acquainted with the sport and liked playing. Throughout his years as a teacher at Crothersville, he had thought about being a coach.

This year, Marc Bowman decided not to return as the boys golf coach, and Smith jumped at the opportunity.
