Kent Denver junior, team drive to 3A boys golf titles

A year ago, Ethan Freeman coasted to the 3A boys golf title, winning by three shots.

The final result ? if not the method ? was the same for the Kent Denver junior Tuesday at Dos Rios Golf Club in Gunnison.

Trailing by two strokes after 16 holes in the second and final round, Freeman finished birdie-birdie and pulled out a one-shot victory over Alexander Dawson's Cole Nygren, the 18-hole leader by three. Nygren parred 17 and bogeyed 18 to card a 1-under-par 70 to Freeman's 66. Freeman finished at 6-under 136.

In the process, Freeman led Kent Denver to a sixth consecutive team title (four in 3A and two in 4A).

"Just a little bit tougher," Freeman said when asked to compare his latest title with the one in 2010.
